Our Legacy & Emblem
Coalcity Social Club Inc., Atlanta Branch was founded in October 2010. The club, Coalcity Social Club Inc., Atlanta, had one of our founding members, Chief Sir Oba Sunny Okoye (Ozo Ogbuefi Ezeoba Na Enugu Agidi), as its first chairman emeritus from 2010 to 2016. The first induction of this branch was held in 2013. The Second Chairman Emeritus from 2021 to 2024 was Ozo Ebubedike Na Enugu Agidi Prince Okonkwo. The Present Chairperson, 2024-2026, is Enyi Onyechibolueze Maureen Stella Nwora (Nne Mmanwu).
Enugu, located in the eastern region of Nigeria, originally began as a coal mining camp for miners in the surrounding mountains. Due to this historical background, the town was nicknamed "Coal City." Most members born and raised in Enugu grew up with the nostalgic and embedded memory of the train steam engines hauling coaches from the mountains to various parts of the country for energy usage and cooking. The head engine of the train signifies strong leadership. The burning coal symbolizes the hard work and burning desire of the club members. The pulled coaches by one or two head engines signify the results and benefits of concerted efforts and working together (one for all and all for one, in good times and bad) to improve the overall welfare of all together. For identification, the emblem is nicknamed "Isi-Engine" in English, meaning "The head of the Engine". Coal City social members also participate in social activities to enhance the quality of life for all members, thereby reducing unnecessary suffering within our community.
